According to official regulations in Bulgaria, foreigners who live in Bulgaria for more than three months must apply for a residence permit. Original passport and driving license are not a substitute!
Police staff are also allowed to ask you for a residence permit and you may need one when opening a bank account or buying a SIM card. It goes without saying that you need one if you work in Bulgaria. Hence, having a residence permit is definitely a big deal!
So make sure your stay in Bulgaria is safe and legal – visit the local migration office and check what documents are requested from you in order to apply. Keep in mind that staff might not speak a foreign language and some of the application documents may be provided only in Bulgarian language. Hence, we recommend you use an official translator when going to the migration office.
